(Photos) 2012 Great Abaco Family Fitness Weekend Results

The 2012 Great Abaco
Family Fitness Weekend took place from Friday March 23rd to Sunday March
25th.  Competitors from across the nation and from countries as far
away as the UK and including Canada and the United States were in
attendance. 

The first event, a one mile open water swim in the
serene waters of Treasure Cay Beach, kicked off on Friday at 5pm.  Seven
competitors participated from Abaco and the UK.  The winner, with a
time of 24:07, was Peter Wagner of Nassau, Bahamas, who decided 5
minutes before the start to participate.  Gina Wilcox, a Treasure Cay
second-home owner from the UK, won the women's division.  Wilcox is
associated with an open water swim club in the UK and was very impressed...

Nassau, Bahamas - The 2012 Carifta Games will be held in Bermuda at the
National Sports Centre from April 7th - 9th, 2012.  The event is one of
the leading track & field championships in the world.

Freeport,
Grand Bahama - FNM candidate for East Grand Bahama Peter Turnquest,
visited Lucaya International School to view the International
Baccalaureate (IB) student art exhibition for 2012.  The International
Baccalaureate is a demanding and highly respected pre-college Diploma
Programme. Students who choose to take the art course must do a two-year
study which requires them to create a minimum of 12 pieces of studio
work and a workbook reflecting a commitment to personal media
experimentation, cultural and historical research, critical analysis and
an ongoing investigation of a personal theme.

The students then host an exhibition, which acts as a concluding IB art examination...

On Mr. Bratton's consultation with Bahamas Police

William Bratton, the former Police Commissioner in New York City,
credited for cleaning up New York crime problems in the mid 1990's, was
in town recently for a consultation with Bahamian Police Commissioner
Ellison Greenslade and the Cabinet of The Bahamas Government.

Since it's election season though, some politicians are out already
suggesting it's too little and too late and stating we do not need
foreigners here to help etc. But should Mr. Bratton provide one useful
idea the exercise would be worth it, so the consultation is both honourable and
timely...
