Attorney Myles Laroda reportedly named new public disclosure chair

Former Public Disclosure Commission Chairman Allan Benjamin's term ended in June, and he chose not to renew the contract. While Guardian Business understands that Cabinet has approved the selection of lawyer Myles Laroda for the post, he has yet to take office.

The Public Disclosure Commission examines the declarations of members of Parliament, senators, senior public officers and public appointees, who are required to declare their assets, income and liabilities as of December 31 of each year as mandated by the Public Disclosure Act.

The commission has become a hot-button issue in recent months due in part to the continuing failure of an undisclosed number of members of Parliament and others required to do so to disclose.

The Public Disclosure Commission comprises a chairman, a secretary and two members who are appointed by the governor general on the recommendation of the prime minister, after consultation with the leader of the opposition. Two Cabinet office staff members are posted there to perform administrative duties.

Guardian Business understands that Cabinet has approved the selection, but the move has yet to be finalized. Up to yesterday, no announcement had been made about Laroda's appointment, nor had he been placed in office.

This issue grows ever more critical as the election approaches.

You project what you feel

You project what you feel

Although we communicate with each other verbally most of the time, whether we're aware of it or not, we also communicate our thoughts, feelings and emotions non-verbally. In fact, so often our non-verbal communication tells people loud and clear whether we actually like them or not, whether we are comfortable with them or not. Yes indeed, we do a whole lot of our communicating with others non-verbally, whether we're aware of it or not.

In other words, we get a feeling, a sense of what others are all about when we come in contact with them by observing very carefully their overall body language. As the title of today's article simply and succinctly puts it, you project what you feel. In other words, if you say to another whom you've just been introduced to, "I'm so pleased to meet you," whilst deep down in your mind you're saying, "This person is really a complete phony and I'm not too keen on him or her at all." Believe me, whether you're aware of it or not, the person whom you're talking to will indeed pick up on the feeling that you do not really like them or feel comfortable with them.

I'm quite sure that most of us have indeed had these kinds of experiences where we say to ourselves, "I don't know exactly what it is but I'm just not comfortable with that person, something is not as it should be". Yes indeed, non-verbal communication is very powerful -- believe me.

Now some people are very adept at picking up and receiving very accurately the feelings of others toward them, regardless of the actual words spoken. I do believe that the more spiritual one becomes, the more intuitive one will be. This assists a person in being able to feel what is really in another person's mind. I'm extremely adept at reading non-verbal signs which assists me greatly when facilitating seminars so that I can pick up on who is taking in what I'm saying, and who is not.
