Lion embraces friends
Sat, Nov 29th 2008, 12:00 AM
Even after he returns to the wild, a city-raised lion remembers where he came from.Friends forever...a must see. It brings tears to ones eyes, we have so much to learn !!
In 1969, John Rendall and Ace Berg saw a lion cub for sale in Harrods. Cramped and lonely in a small cage, they decided to bring it home.
A local vicar allowed them to exercise the cub, now named Christian, in the grounds but he very quickly became too big for their flat.
The only thing they could do was try to reintroduce him to Africa, which they managed to do. A year later they wanted to visit him but were told that he was now the head of his own pride and as such was completely wild and would not remember them.
Undaunted, they went anyway.
After many hours of looking for the pride, this is what happened when they finally found the wild lion..
what the video to see... and one thing to rememeber... never forget your friends..

Junkanoo Groups Lack Sponsorship

Minister of State for Culture Charles Maynard said recently that some Junkanoo groups are having trouble accessing money because of the tough economic times.
According to the minister, about $320,000 was distributed to Junkanoo groups throughout the archipelago.
However, some groups in the Family Islands are in dire need of assistance, Minister Maynard said.
"The major groups in New Providence seem to be intact but some of the outer islands are finding it difficult to access their regular sponsors," he said.
"We are offering assistance to some of the Family Islands to see how best we can assist them to raise more revenue in order to sustain the parades there."
Minister Maynard said for the most part, the plans for the Junkanoo parades are going as planned.
In fact, he said there is more participation from Junkanoo groups this year.
"We haven?t had to make any adjustments in terms of size of the parades, number of groups competing or any of that sort," Minister Maynard said. "We are quite pleased with the participation. This year it is up."
In terms of bleachers, the minister said that the government has decided to extend the contract to C-Cube Bleacher Company for one more year.
"We wanted one more year to allow other companies to submit a more substantial bid for next year," he said.
"That [new contract] would include new bleacher systems that would able to be dismantled including the one in Rawson Square so that there would be broader entry systems for the general public," Minister Maynard said.
The minister disclosed that the government will be spending $400,000.
Meanwhile, the outer islands and some committees will provide their own funding for seating.
Minister Maynard said even though the country is facing hard economic times, he feels that ticket sales will be up.
"You would recall that we had reduced the ticket pricing last year to pre-2002 levels and so we believe that they are going to be reasonable," he said.
" People are going to be able to afford to participate. People look forward to Junkanoo so they will fit it in their budget but at least it will be easy for them to fit it in their budget."
