FOR THE second consecutive year, local high school softball players will benefit from the tutelage of international professionals visiting our shores.

The Bahamas Softball Federation, in conjunction with Smooth Sailing, is scheduled to host the Softball Cruise Clinic II next month.

The event is all set to take place in New Providence, beginning noon February 23 at the Blue Hills Softball Complex.

In last year's edition of the event, participants were treated to an appearance by American Olympic softball pitching great Monica Abbott.

CANNABIS abuse could be one of the factors behind the high rate of crime in the Bahamas, according to a local psychiatrist.

Dr Kirk Christie, of the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, said taking into account the disinhibiting effects of cannabis and the fact that its use is widespread, the drug could be fuelling deviant behaviour.

In a meeting with Social Service Hotline councillors yesterday, Dr Christie stressed the dangers of substance abuse, and in particular cannabis abuse.
