Freeport, Grand Bahama - 

In order to comply with the
SCSCB (Society for Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds) protocol
and carry out the required second site inventory of the 11 ponds on the
Reef Golf Course.

Thanks to all of you who turned out for this first CWC on Grand Bahama
Island last Saturday. Thanks to Dr. Lisa Sorensen from SCSCB we were
guided electronically through a proper point count. Jill Cooper and
Sarah Knowles recorded all species and numbers of birds meticulously
and had no problem with the standard abbreviation from the AOU species
alpha codes...

Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas - It was July, 2010 and Shark
Week on Discovery Channel was showing gory programmes on endangered
sharks as well as a few science-based documentaries.  An impressionable
12 year old student, my daughter Candice Woon was watching many of the
programmes. 

 

In August we were fortunate
to be able to stay at the lovely eco-resort, Paradise Cove.  The
first day we took advantage of many of the amenities, snorkeling, kayaking,
the great food, a great day.  On day two, I wanted to snorkel and
kayak again with my daughter.  She did not wish to.  It turns
out that the night before she had had a nightmare inspired by Discovery
Channel's Shark Week about the giant extinct megatooth shark called
megalodon...

Carl Hield and Valentino Knowles, fresh off their historic double medal performances at the Commonwealth Games, are among four boxers who are training in Cuba to travel to the COPA Box Independence Tournament. Hield and Knowles, silver and bronze medallists in one of the past senior elite boxing tournaments, will be joined by Rasheed Williams and Denash Dames, who are all working out in Cuba for the tournament scheduled for the Dominican Republic February 19-24. Ronald Woodside and Godfrey Strachan are currently in town and are being trained by national coach Andre Seymour at the National Boxing Center. Seymour said while  ...
