Bahamslocal staff members were invited to attend BJJ and Muay Thai classes at Fight Sports Bahamas BJJ. Fight Sports is a small academy, that believes in keeping the rules strict and following the traditional guidelines of a true BJJ Academy.

Their curriculum is taught under the guidance of qualified world class black belts.

This class did not disappoint and was lead by Black Belt Professor Rafa De Martins and assisted by Janvier Chalopin and Michel Giacomotti. Staff members were taught self defense in forms of the Street Guard and Triangle Choke.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese jujutsu to create the art. It contains stand-up maneuvers, but it is most famous for its devastating ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning—so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent—is the key in BJJ.

Self confidence, realistic self defense, as well as mental and physical health are some of the benefits of BJJ. Fight Sports prides itself on their clean and well equipped facility and the gym is regarded as their home. They offer a no excuse schedule opening at 6:00am - 8:30pm Monday to Friday. They are located in Pineapple Business Park, Airport Industrial Park.
