Special attention paying off for children with HIV

A large percentage of children infected with HIV are not doing well in school, according to the pediatrician for the Infectious Disease Clinic at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Dr. Percival McNeil told The Nassau Guardian yesterday at the Bahamas Dental Association’s (BDA) 2010 Scientific Conference that a tutoring program has been developed specifically for those children infected with the disease who are struggling academically.

“One hundred percent have shown improvement in their homework (due to the program),” he said.

Dr. Andre Rollins, president of the Dental Association, said having Dr. McNeil at the conference helped create cross-profession awareness.
