A magistrate on Monday revoked bail for a man whose travel to Canada sparked debate over the electronic monitoring program.

Ashley Barry was remanded when he appeared before Magistrate Cara Turnquest on Monday, according to his lawyer Ian Cargill.

Barry returns to court in October.

He was arrested on Harbour Island on Sunday for allegedly violating his bail conditions.

Barry returned to The Bahamas voluntarily in August.

Stephen Greenslade, the principal of ICS which has the contract for the program, said the man had traveled with the permission of the court.

Greenslade released the details of the incident in a statement after critics suggested that the incident demonstrated the ineffectiveness of the electronic surveillance program.

Greenslade said the man's movements were monitored while he was abroad.
