Brown Lawns Can Turn Off Buyers

Do: Pay attention to the state of your yard before showings. A brown lawn will not give your home great curb appeal. If you are trying to sell your home, the lack of rainfall and rising temperatures in The Bahamas are probably damaging your beautiful lawn and causing it to turn brown. This look will not impress potential buyers. One of the best things you can do to help your lawn during the hot summer days is to raise your mower deck at least one setting to allow the grass on your lawn to be a little longer.

Longer grasss does a better job of retaining water and standing up to heat. This is also the time of the year you should be sharpening your mower blades. Sharp blades will cut your grass instead of tearing it minimizing stress during hot temperatures. Mowing your lawn early in the cooler hours of the morning or later in the afternoon will minimize water loss.

Do not mow your lawn in the blazing sun of a 90 degree day unless you are hoping for a stroke. Scheduling your watering is extremely important to keep a healthy garden. Water your lawn in the early morning or after sunset. The morning and afternoon watering is a good idea for lawn care throughout the year, but during a heat wave, it is particularly useful in fighting evaporation, which dries out your garden.

Sprinkling water here and there every day might sound like a good idea. But, in fact, a deep watering two or three times a week works best, particularly during heat waves. Deeper watering helps the lawn extend its roots deeper into the soil, where moisture can be found even after the top inch or two of soil dries out. Using a bit of mulch grass clipping will also help keep moisture levels steady.
