The Bahamas Star Gymnastics' competitive team paid a courtesy call on Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Charles Maynard recently. The nine-member squad arrived adorned with an impressive collection of medals earned at the recent American Twisters Tim Rand Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the Wolverine Classic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They were joined by coaches and other team hopefuls. Head Coach Alexander Mayet, a former international gymnastics competitor himself, described the stellar performances and spoke of his high expectations for the team's continued growth toward Olympic success. Minister Maynard praised the team for its recent accomplishments, encouraged them to stay the course and told them he looked forward to seeing them form a first-ever Bahamas Olympic team of gymnasts competing in the 2016 games. To further encourage them, Minister Maynard invited celebrated Olympian Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie to share a few words of support with the team. Afterwards, the team was excited to get signatures from the kind Olympian. Shown in the picture is the Bahamas Star team with Maynard.
