The Bahamas Marine Exporters Association Efforts to Help Improve Fisheries Management

The Bahamas Marine Exporters Association
(BMEA), which consists of local licensed lobster exporters has been
working in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, the Department
of Marine Resources (DMR), local fishermen, buyers, and NGOs including
The Nature Conservancy, Abaco Friends of the Environment, The Bahamas
National Trust, Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation (BREEF)
and the Bahamas Commercial Fishers Alliance, to encourage sustainable
fishing practices and improve management of the spiny lobster fishery
along with other conservation initiatives. The BMEA and its partners
have been
working
since 2009 to develop and implement a strategy to improve the lobster
fishery under an initiative known as the Bahamas Spiny Lobster Fishery
Improvement Project (FIP)...
