American Airlines is planning at expansion of services to The Bahamas in the first quarter of 2024, during the the busy winter season, according to the airline's website, which reveals Nassau and Family Islands expansion on the horizon.

"This winter, American will reinforce its status as the largest airline between the US and Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America by further expanding our largest-ever schedule to the region, with more flights to fun-in-the-sun destinations," the company's website said.

American reveals in its schedule that it will increase flights from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Eleuthera, to a daily service from February 15 until April 3.

The company will also expand its flights from Charlotte to George Town, Exuma; and from Charlotte to Marsh Harbour during those same dates.

American said it will add daily flights from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Nassau beginning February 15, but with no stated end date for that route.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation Chester Cooper said in April during a mission to Texas, that a visit to The Bahamas "should be on Texas residents' 2023 bucket list".

The Bahamas' tourism machinery said it is hoping to take advantage of the largest distribution of passports in a state in the last five years, with 1.6 million more Texans now sporting passports, the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation said in a statement earlier this year.

The Ministry of Tourism also said in April that Texans at the time had direct airlift to The Bahamas, through daily service out of Dallas with American Airlines and weekend service from that city with United Airlines. It also added that Austin residents had Saturday service through American Airlines and daily service from Houston through United Airlines.

The ministry announced in June that for the first time, there will be direct flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in California to Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) through JetBlue Airlines, beginning November 4.

Also in June, Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board Chief Executive Officer Joy Jibrilu made the announcement that The Bahamas will have additional airlift from Seattle and Los Angeles under a new partnership with Alaska Airlines.

It marks the first flights for the airline to The Bahamas from its two West Coast hubs, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

Alaska Airlines begins flights on December 14 and will operate through to April 2024.
