FOCOL is assisting Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) with investigations into contaminated fuel, the company's Chief Executive Officer Dexter Adderley told members of the media on Thursday, on the sidelines of FOCOL's launch of its Smartpass app.

Adderley said despite the investigation into the contaminated fuel, FOCOL is confident in its systems and processes.

Following a fire that destroyed the power plant in North Andros, Minister of Works and Utilities Alfred Sears told reporters that fuel contaminated with water was sent to North Andros, to be used in the replacement generator meant to restore power to the residents in that area.

He said that fuel mishap slowed the progress of returning power to North Andros.

"In my communication in Parliament today, we disclose that fuel that was sent contained water," Sears said two weeks ago.

"And that also contributed to the challenges that BPL personnel had on the ground, as they were trying to assemble this temporary supply of electricity for North Andros."

He added: "Some of the fuel that was delivered was contaminated and had to be replaced."

Adderley said FOCOL is working with authorities on finding the cause of the contaminated fuel. He said he therefore could not comment more on the matter.

"It's really difficult for me to comment any further, I don't have any additional information at this time that I can share," Adderley said.

"But what I do know is that the situation has been normalized, and things are back to normal. What I can say is that FOCOL delivers millions and millions of gallons on a monthly and annual basis. We are very confident in our systems and our processes. We have no doubt in our ability to rely reliability of our systems and processes.

"But the Andros matter has a very unique matter, and we are we are assisting BPL with their investigations. And that's as much as I have at this time."
