Minister for Grand Bahama Leads Delegation on a Bahamas Trade and Investment Mission to West Africa

Diversifying the economy of Grand Bahama and fostering economic growth through new partnerships in trade and investments continues to be the priority for the Government and was a crucial point of the Bahamian government delegation led by the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Honourable Ginger Moxey on a recent trade and investment mission to West Africa.

Minister Moxey recently led a delegation on a Bahamas Trade and Investment Mission to West Africa withkey stops in Ghana and Nigeria. The delegation consisted of representatives from The Bahamas InvestmentAuthority under the Ministry of Tourism, Aviation and Investments, the Ministry for Grand Bahama, and TheBahamas Trade Commission in the person of Trade Commissioner, Senator Barry Griffin under the Ministryof Economic Affairs.

The mission took the delegation to various regions within Ghana and Nigeria. During the visit to Ghana,Minster Moxey signed a Sister City Agreement with the City of Princess Town (Pokesu) in the WesternRegionof Ghana, a location with significant historical ties to The Bahamas and the Caribbean and a city that sits ona critical trade route poised for a symbiotic business relationship with Grand Bahama.

A vital benefit of the island is its geographical location; for this reason, Grand Bahama was pitched tocontinental Africa as the ‘Gateway to the Caribbean and the Americas’ and a prime location for investment.

The Davis/Cooper Administration has identified Grand Bahama as the “Home of Maritime and Logistics”, the“Home of Innovation”, and the “Home of Events and Entertainment.” Minister Moxey participated in high-leveldiscussions with African banks, exporters, chambers of commerce, creative industry partners, small andmedium size businesses, and various government agencies to promote the benefits of using the island as akey Logistics Hub for the transshipment of goods to and from West Africa. The delegation also visited anInnovation and Technology Incubator in Accra, Ghana, to learn about advances they are making in theTechnology Sector and how some of those advances can be shared to develop the sector in Grand Bahama.

Minister Moxey also engaged in conversations to attract FinTech, AgriTech, and Information andCommunication Technology (ICT) investments to Grand Bahama.
