RF Donates Greenhouse to CR Walker

RF Bank & Trust (Bahamas) Limited (RF) announced their donation of a newly constructed greenhouse to C. R. Walker High School. The greenhouse willbe used in the school’s project-based learning model to educate students on agriculture andenvironmental topics. The school has embarked on several initiatives to reengage studentsincluding taking learning out of the classroom setting and expanding to real world scenarioswhere students can apply concepts and solve the problems of their day.

Representatives from the Ministry of Education, C. R. Walker students and faculty and RFrepresentatives were in attendance for the remarks and ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil thegreenhouse.

“We thank RF Bank & Trust for this timely and invaluable donation,” commented Patrice Green,Education Officer at the Ministry of Education. “Greenhouses are a good example of protectiveagriculture and teaches students about contributing towards a sustainable agricultural future.Let us continue to work towards preserving our beautiful country with the assistance ofcorporate Bahamas.”

The project is part of RF’s larger philanthropic efforts that support youth and particularlyeducation. With the impact of COVID, rising global inequality, climate change and otherchallenges that threaten food sustainability worldwide, the Donations Committee at RF wasmoved to support the faculties vision for a greenhouse.

“These past two and a half years have been a struggle and sadly many students have opted outof attending class feeling that school is not in their best interest,” noted Princess Fawkes,Principal at C. R. Walker High School. “Many have not found their niche and we hope to changethat with different approaches to learning. This greenhouse may now present that opportunityto reach students in a new way.”

RF has been impressed by the passion of principal and faculty at C. R. Walker, and thegroundbreaking projects underway. The investment bank announced plans to continue thepartnership with the school to develop more projects over the coming years. The newly erectedgreenhouse ties into CR Walker’s overall goal to improve literacy scores as part of its yearlongresearch project that links interdisciplinary units to skills like comprehension and problem-solving.
