NEWS ITEM ON TROPICAL DEPRESSION PETER, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE AT 6AM EDT, WEDNESDAY 22NDSEPTEMBER 2021.

…POORLY ORGANIZED PETER EXPECTED TO TURN NORTHWARD TONIGHT…

AT 5 AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION PETER WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 21.5° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 66.1° WEST, OR 215 MILES NORTH OF SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO.

THE DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MILES PER HOUR. A TURN TO THE NORTH IS EXPECTED BY TONIGHT, FOLLOWED BY A NORTH-NORTHEASTWARD OR A NORTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.  ON THE FORECAST TRACK THE CENTER OF PETER WILL REMAIN WELL EAST OF THE SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS.   

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 35 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME GRADUAL WEAKENING IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, AND PETER IS FORECAST TO DEGENERATE INTO A REMNANT LOW ON THURRSDAY.
