BEC blames power cuts on software malfunction

Power outages across New Providence yesterday were sparked by a single software malfunction that caused two major Bahamas Electricity Corporation generators to go offline, according to BEC.
In a press statement, BEC officials said they have corrected the fault responsible for the power failures.
The statement added that the software malfunction, which occurred shortly before 9 a.m., forced two generators to trip resulting in power supply cuts in several communities.
“BEC officials were able to address the problem and within the hour, the majority of customers would have had their electricity supply restored,” the statement said.
