Bahamas and South Africa strengthen ties

These areas were discussed during the First Arrival and Courtesy Calls of Her Excellency Mathu Joyini, Non-Resident High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, April 5 - 8, 2011.

The Bahamas and South Africa established diplomatic relations on July 28, 1994. The Bahamas played a prominent role in the South African liberation struggle, i.e. the adoption of the Nassau Understanding and the establishment of the Eminent Persons Group during the 1985 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Nassau.
"The success of this endeavour is a testament to the hurdles that can be overcome through unwavering commitment and determination. It is this same determination that continues to deepen the cooperation between our two countries and which formed the basis for bilateral partnership, as evidences by the signing in 2004 of a Joint Bilateral Agreement and the establishment in 2005 of a Joint Bilateral Commission," Sir Arthur said.
