Rotary, Rotaract to host Hollywood Glam Party 'Puttin on the Ritz Fund-raiser for Barry J. Rassin UB Scholarship February 16

It was the days of The Great Gatsby, of glamour, glitz and puttin’ on the ritz and now that theme is coming to Paradise Island for one night February 16 when the Rotary Club of East Nassau and Rotaract join forces to raise funds for a University of The Bahamas scholarship.

“Rotary provides nearly 30 scholarships for deserving students every year but next year we wanted to offer a very special scholarship to honour Barry J. Rassin, a member of our club who now holds the title of President of Rotary International 2018-2019,” said East Rotary Club president Hope Sealey. .

“We are so proud to be Barry Rassin’s Rotary Club. Presiding over 1.2 million Rotarians is an incredible honour for a Bahamian and demonstrates the faith Rotarians around the world place in Barry’s leadership ability and civic-mindedness.” The fund-raiser will be held at a private home on Paradise Island that has been donated for the cause.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Pop Band under the direction of Chief Petty Officer Matthew Rolle will perform along with a deejay and food is by Events by Alexandra.

Guests are invited to dress as movie stars ranging from Hollywood glam to modern day pirates, screen politicians and producers.

“We are very pleasued that a number of sponsors have come on board to donate great prizes, including Grand Isle Villas in Exuma, Romora Bay Resort & Marina in Harbour Island, Bahamasair, Bahamas Ferries, Oasis Furniture Sandyport, Sandals Royal Bahamian, Bahamian Brewery, ALIV, Bristol Cellars and more.

Galleria Cinemas donated super movie posters. We have had fabulous cooperation from everyone we have approached and we hope to have a full house of 150, a number limited by the space available that will make it comfortable yet intimate.”

An online auction will begin within a few days and Atlantis Vice President and radio personality Ed Fields will conduct the live auction the night of the event. The party is limited to 150 persons.
