Mixed results for The Bahamas at pre-qualifying tennis tourney

Team Bahamas continued with its play at the 2017 World Junior Tennis (WJT) North/Central America and Caribbean Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, yesterday, splitting results between the boys and girls.
The boys won easily over Trinidad & Tobago, 3-0, and the girls fell for the second day in a row, this time losing to Haiti.
In boys play, Denali Nottage knocked off Kyle Kerry of Trinidad & Tobago, 6-0 and 6-4 in a match that lasted a little over an hour. In the other singles match, Kofi Bowe defeated Liam Sheppard, also in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3. In doubles play, the team of Ryan Fox and Denali Nottage outlasted the team of Alijah Leslie and Sheppard, 1-6, 6-0 and 10-4.
Meanwhile, the girls fell to Haiti, 2-0. The doubles match will be played today, but Haiti has already secured the victory. In the first match, Soneica Jean Charles defeated Bahamian Perjae Major, 5-7, 6-2 and 6-0. In the other match, Richardlyne Francois turned back Bahamian Emma Weech in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
On Monday, The Bahamas boys lost to Barbados, 2-1, and in a tie that was completed on Tuesday, the girls fell to Nicaragua, 2-1.
In boys' play, Nottage fell to Bajan Kyle Griffith in the opening singles match, 7-6(2) and 6-4. In the other singles match, Bowe lost to Stephen Slocombe in three sets, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3. The Bahamas managed to win the doubles match as the team of Nottage and Bowe turned back the Bajan team of Griffith and James Mackenzie, 7-5, 3-6 and 10-7.
In girls' play on Monday, Major lost her opening match to Cecilia Ramirez in three sets, 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3. Weech won in straight sets over Camila Cuadra, 6-3 and 6-0, but Nicaragua clinched the tie by winning the doubles match. The team of Cuadra and Adriana De la Calle knocked off the Bahamian pair of Major and Weech in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors under-14 event will continue today over at the Parque del Este in Santo Domingo. The boys will be in action against Panama.
