The sporting discipline of beach volleyball has been confirmed for the sixth Commonwealth Youth Games, which will be hosted here in New Providence, The Bahamas, in July of next year.

It appears that everything is coming together ahead of the sixth Commonwealth Youth Games, which will be hosted here in New Providence, The Bahamas, in July, 2017.

This week, the sport of beach volleyball was confirmed for the games, meaning that the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has now approved all of the sporting disciplines proposed by the Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC).

"We are doing our part, working diligently to ensure that we are able to put on a great Commonwealth Youth Games next year," said BOC President Wellington Miller. "Now we have to go to Canada and make one more presentation to the Commonwealth Games committee and then we'll be all set in that regard. We are assembling a team of presenters to go over there and give them a preview of what they can expect when they get to The Bahamas."

The youth games will be held July 19-23, 2017, and will be the largest sporting event ever hosted on Bahamian soil. Over 1,200 athletes from 71 countries in the Commonwealth are expected to participate in the multi-sport event.

In anticipation of the prestigious games, there has been an initiative launched by the National Sports Authority (NSA) to enhance or renovate all of the venues that will be occupied during the course of the week-long event.

"The repairs have been going just a bit slower than we would like, but I'm sure things will pick up closer to the games," Miller said. "We just have to keep doing our part in marketing the games and the venues to the Commonwealth committee. I'm sure by the time the games roll around we will be all ready to go."

Some of the renovations that have already been made include an overhaul of Kendal G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium, equipment upgrades at Betty Kelly-Kenning National Aquatics Centre and upgrades to Winton Rugby Pitch.

The Nassau centric games will mark the first Commonwealth Games to be held in the Caribbean in over 50 years. There will be nine disciplines contested including aquatics, athletics, boxing, cycling (road), judo, rugby sevens, tennis, beach soccer and now beach volleyball.
