“We’re really excited to now offer the Varian EDGE at Cleveland Clinic Florida,” said Dr. John Greskovich, Radiation Oncologist who has been with the Clinic’s Maroone Cancer Center since 2009. “Only a few centers around the world offer the Varian EDGE technology and with 32% of all our Caribbean patients coming from The Bahamas, we wanted Bahamians to know that this state-of-the-art technology is now available and just a short flight away. The process is painless and patients are capable of resuming their normal activities within an hour.”

“The radiosurgery process is simple,” noted Dr. John Greskovich. “The patient is placed on a CT scanner to simulate the actual treatment. A series of 3D or 4D CT images allow doctors to precisely locate the tumor and evaluate its motion. Then a personalized EDGE radiosurgery plan is developed by using specialized software and the 3D and 4D images. Then a high-intensity ray is delivered to destroy the tumor. Many patients only need to come for five outpatient treatments, significantly fewer visits than required with traditional radiation technologies. What makes this so important in the cancer treatment journey is it means less time away from home and loved ones for those coming from abroad.
