Potential Health Risk after Sunflower Seed Supplier Increases Scope of Impacted Products

Kashi Company is announcing a voluntary recall of two varieties of Kashi® brand snack bars – including one imported to Bahamas by customers – because they contain ingredients made from sunflower seeds distributed by its supplier, SunOpta, that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The company has received no confirmed reports of illness to date.

The recalled product in Bahamas includes one variety of Kashi® snack bar.

Images of these products can be found at www.consumeralert.kashi.com. No other Kashi or Bear Naked products are impacted by this recall.

People who have purchased affected product should return it to the store where purchased for a full refund.
