The members of St. Peter's Parish recently honored one of their own for her continued work in their church and the wider community of North Long Island.

Former rector of the church, Reverend Patrick Burton who spoke at the service, likened Anglican Church Women (ACW) member Theresa Miller, who lives in Miller's, Long Island, to the late nun Mother Teresa of Calcutta, India, who dedicated her life to tireless service to the world's most rejected and her courageous witness to millions of what it is to live the gospel.

Burton, who is now the assistant priest at St. Matthew's Parish, Shirley Street, said through Miller's restaurant she has been called upon to feed many people who did not have the means to pay for food.

Rev. Richard Wood is the newly installed rector of St. Peter's Parish, having taken over after the departure of Burton.

When Burton and his late wife Coral Patrice arrived at St. Peter's in August 2010 there was no ACW. The organization at that parish had been defunct for 20 years. Burton lamented and bemoaned the fact that wherever God has placed an Anglican Church there must be an ACW organization. After speaking with the ACW Council, the governing body for all ACW in the Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, they made contact with Debbie Ferguson  who engaged in a meeting with potential female members of the ACW in Simms, Long Island.

On Sunday March 11, 2011 the ACW of St. Peter's was organized with Grace Deal at the helm. To date, membership of the St. Peter's Parish ACW hovers around 20 members.

Floret Adderley followed Deal as president, and helped to orangize their first ACW concert to raise funds for ladies to be able to attend the annual ACW Conference. With Burton as rector, and Adderley at the helm at St. Peter's, they were instrumental in organizing the first ACW at St. Christopher's Anglican Church in Port Nelson, Rum Cay.
