Students receive their awards during the 10th RBC Finco Visual Arts Exhibition.

L.N. Coakley High School, Preston Albury Junior School, Government High School and T.A. Thompson Junior School were all winners at the recent 10th RBC FINCO Visual Arts Exhibition, sponsored in conjunction with the Art and Design Unit of the Department of Education.

The exhibition showcases art and crafts produced by students in high schools, junior and senior, and primary schools throughout the country. The exhibition allows students to express themselves and their creativity.

RBC FINCO has been committed to the arts and education for many years. The bank believes in the power of the arts to enrich lives and enhance communities.

Arts education promotes the skills children need to be successful. Research has proven that exposure to art education enhances learning, improves school attendance and sharpens critical and creative skills. The Visual Arts Exhibition reflects the fine quality of art instruction and talent that exists in The Bahamas.

"RBC FINCO is proud to sponsor the Visual Arts Exhibition for the 10th consecutive year," said Detrice Hanna, branch manager, RBC FINCO. "Sponsoring events like this goes far beyond our desire to be a socially conscious organization.

"We look upon this sponsorship and the support of our students as a productive investment.

"The youth of today will be our leaders tomorrow, and we expect our investments to yield important returns for our entire community," she said.

Hanna congratulated the artists who participated in the exhibition for their exceptional work. She also thanked the teachers and the school administrators for their contributions and encouragement of the students.

And told parents their children could not have done it without them.

RBC also sponsors the Summer Arts Workshop in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The workshop is designed for eighth and 11th grade students who are preparing for their Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC) and Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations.

For many years, the program has played a pivotal role in the development of young Bahamian artists.
