"You will get dirty," was the promise made to everyone willing to challenge themselves and run dirty -- and BahamaHealth surely delivered. Participants gathered at Fort Charlotte at 6 a.m. recently for BahamaHealth's first "Run Dirty" event -- a five kilometer endurance course of obstacles through sand, sea and mud, designed to promote wellness, fitness and teamwork.

"Run Dirty 2015 was a resounding success," said Alana Major, BahamaHealth's senior manager of group sales and "Run Dirty" organizer. "The event will certainly go down in history as an innovative approach to wellness, fitness and teamwork. Our goal was to encourage all participants to challenge themselves to new levels of wellness and fitness."

The walk/run route included the main streets of Nassau, with the dirty segment taking place at Junkanoo Beach and Fort Charlotte. Obstacles included a muddy leopard crawl, scaling a slanted wall, crawling through a tunnel, "Carry Me" (stretcher edition) and a RBDF drill station.

"The first ever Bahama Health Run Dirty was the most wonderful and dirtiest experience I have ever had," said participant Dr. Tanya Hall. "The promotion of teamwork is one that I truly must commend. Our team members looked out for each other every step of the way. I look forward to making this an annual must-attend event on my calendar."

Lauryn Storr was first in the youngster category with Tristan and Chase Farrington second and third, respectively.

Leslie Miller was the oldest participant; the Orry J. Sands Spartans was the largest team; Helen Kaimarama was the individual female winner; Zhivargo Rolle was the individual male winner; Brohamas was first in the "team size four and under" category; and Orry J. Sands Spartans (male) took first place first place "team size five to 10".

Part proceeds from the event will go to the Hurricane Relief Fund, which Family Guardian will match for every registration fee received. The donated funds will go directly toward Bahamians impacted by Hurricane Joaquin, which devastated many of the southern islands in early October.

Run Dirty corporate sponsors included Bahamas Wholesale, Dasani Water, Milo B. Butler & Sons, Elite Fitness, Aetna, Sun Tee and Major Changes Rehab Centre.
