Strong performances for Team Bahamas at Caribbean Golf Championships

After four rounds of intense competition, the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships came to a close yesterday in Montego Bay, Jamaica with several Bahamian duos finished atop the leaderboards in their respective categories.

In the Higgs & Higgs division (males 60 years old and over) the duo of Vernon Wells and Bobby Rose of The Bahamas finished tied for first with the team of Peter Chin and Easton Williams with a total of 284 strokes. The Bahamian duo led for most of the tournament, but fell behind six strokes on the final day.

Fabian Lee Foon and Barry Ferdinand of Trinidad and Tobago finished third with 289 strokes. The Ramon Baez team (males 35 years and over) of cousins John and Peter McIntosh finished sixth with a total of 297 strokes. Juan Campusano and Bienvenido Guerrero of the Dominican Republic won the division with 277 total strokes, while the duo of Gifford Wilmot and Mark Newnham of Jamaica finished second with 290 strokes.

The trio of Inecia Rolle, Taneka Sandiford and Sheridan Dillon-Robinson ended the race for the George Teale Memorial Trophy (ladies) in 14th place with a combined total of 1,029 strokes. The group fell substantially on the last day after ending the third round in sixth position. The Francis/ Steele- Perkins team (men 50 years and over) of George Swann and Horace Miller major finished tied for sixth with Mario Carbia and Felipe Colon of Puerto Rico with 292 total strokes.

Carlos Baynes and Richard Camacho of Trinidad and Tobago won the division with 283 strokes. Keith Stein and Radcliff Knibbs of Jamaica finished second with a total of 285 strokes, while Trevor Levine and Conrad Stancliffe from the U.S. Virgin Islands rounded out the top three with 286.

Finally, The Bahamas Hoerman Cup team (regulars) of Devaughn Robinson, Benjamin Davis Jr., Asif Robinson, Nolan Johnson and Elijah Delancy finished fourth with a total of 1,330 strokes. The head coach of the team was Harry Fountain and the Bahamas Golf Federation's (BGF) executive member that travelled with the team was Fred Wright.
