Guards fired rubber bullets into a crowd of angry detainees to regain control after an early morning brawl broke out at the Carmichael Road Immigration Detention Centre.
According to a senior officer at the centre, the men were queuing up for breakfast when a fight started in the men's bathroom.
He said a Haitian man was reportedly using a stall when he was told  to "get out" by a Cuban detainee.
The two men got into an argument which quickly drew a crowd, some of whom became involved.  It is unclear how many detainees took part in the incident, but police were said to have a Cuban man and two Haitians in custody last night.
