With the help of BTC and the iVolunteers, the students of five Nassau schools each treated their teachers to a special day of celebration for Teacher’s Appreciation Day. Eva Hilton Primary School, H.O. Nash Junior High School, Thelma Gibson Primary School, Stapledon School, and Gambier Primary School all held special Teachers Appreciation assemblies in conjunction with their adoptive sponsor BTC to honour their teachers with performances and prizes.

The five schools have been ‘adopted’ by BTC through their adopt-a-school program, and regularly receive support and financial assistance from the company and its’ community service corps, the BTC iVolunteers.

For Teacher’s Appreciation this year, BTC and the iVolunteers toured the schools over two weeks, assisting in organising festive assemblies and presenting teachers and administration with tablets, smartphones and other gifts of appreciation.

At the assemblies, students serenaded the teachers with songs and poems, performed dances and skits, and thanked the teachers for their dedication throughout the year. BTC staff joined in thanking the teachers as well, with representatives such as Manager of PR Indira Collie and CEO Leon Williams addressing the students and educators.

Mr. Williams stated that BTC, as a corporate citizen, believes that honouring educators is paramount in supporting youth, a social impact goal the company holds dear.

“Not just anyone can do the amazing things that teachers do for our youth and for our country,” he admired. “We celebrate teachers today because they groom the police officers, lawyers, doctors, CEOs, and even Prime Ministers of tomorrow.”

He continued, “At BTC we are committed to this country’s future and to this country’s youth. In addition to adopting many schools across the nation, we sponsor youth activities such as Junior Achievement, Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year, and the CARIFTA swimming and track & field teams. However, these efforts could not have the impact that they do, if these students had not first gotten their foundation from their teachers. So we salute these dedicated, selfless individuals.”
