The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation will recognize 121 students from public and private schools in New Providence, Grand Bahama and the Family Islands in the 2015 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program.
This premier annual national recognition ceremony, which was established in 1997, has impacted over 1,700 talented young students and after this year's awards ceremonies, would have awarded over $1 million in scholarships and prizes over the past 18 years. This was done because of the great support of many individuals and agencies.
Under the patronage of Jacqueline Bethel, retired chief of protocol and former educator, and Dr. Davidson Hepburn, 35th president of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Assembly, the foundation will hold the 2015 awards ceremony on May 23 at 6 p.m. at Golden Gates World Outreach Ministries.
The event is open to the general public. The students will share $102,000 in scholarships and $20,000 in prizes. The winner, first runner up, second runner up, third runner up and fourth runner up will receive computers.
On an annual basis, primary schools around The Bahamas nominate an outstanding 6th grade student to become the National Primary School Student of the Year. These students are among the best and brightest primary school students in our educational system. These students are campus and community leaders, scholars and athletics. They represent the future of our Bahamas.
