Parents that have kept all 203 students of North Eleuthera High for more than a week said they would return them in time for a visit from the Minister of Education scheduled for today.

Since Education Minister Desmond Bannister ordered changes throughout the island's public schools, parents have kept their children out of class.

Parent Teachers Association President Garnell Bethel said on Tuesday she spoke with Alvin Smith, the MP for the area, and the school's new principal, Frank Jones, and promised the students would return in time for the minister's arrival.

But Bethel said this did not mean the parents' protest is over. The PTA president said they will be looking for answers from Mr. Bannister to explain why the school's former Principal and Vice Principal, Deborah Deal and Catherine Collins.

Bethel said Ms. Collins' removal was the kay point for the PTA. "The major (issue) right now is that they took away our Ms Collins, the BJC social studies and BGCSE history teacher and haven't replaced her. We are missing a teacher."
