Aman on bail for a firearms offense is asking a court to remove his ankle bracelet so he can attend a water safety course offered by the Governor General's Youth Award Programme.

Dino Smith, 20, was granted bail last January on a charge of possession of a firearm with intent to put another in fear. He told Justice Vera Watkins that he had joined the civic organization last October and wanted his GPS tracking device removed permanently so he could participate in hiking and swim courses.

The Crown has opposed the application to vary the conditions of his release. Watkins will hear the application next Tuesday. On the same date, she will give a bail decision on a man accused of murder.

Edward Anwar Johnson is charged with the February 2014 shooting death of Troy Bodie at Dunmore Street. Johnson is scheduled to be tried on the charge on May 8, 2017. The Crown has opposed his bail application because he was on bail for attempted murder when he allegedly committed murder.
