A 47-year-old woman was yesterday charged with capital murder in the death of Andrea Carroll, who was found dead with her hands and feet bound, in her home last November.
Daphne Knowles, of Cartwright's Long Island, made her first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery
Prosecutors allege that Knowles committed the offenses between November 28 and 29. Knowles is accused of robbing Carroll, the manageress of Bowe's Web, of $68,000 that belonged to the company. Knowles was not required to enter a plea to the charges and was denied bail.
The unrepresented woman asked, "Where's the money that they say I robbed her of? And who are the people I conspired with?"
Ferguson-Pratt explained that those were evidential questions that would be answered at trial.
If convicted, Knowles could face the death penalty or life imprisonment.
Carroll, 53, lived alone in her home in Deadman's Cay, Long Island. She had one child. Police initially said she was fatally stabbed, but later said she died from a head injury.
