An unemployed teenager is facing child pornography charges after he allegedly published a sex video of a teenage singer online.

Deontra Demeritte, 18, of Jubilee Gardens, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt accused of possessing and disseminating child pornography on December 14, 2014. Demeritte pleaded not guilty to the charges. He returns to court on February 17 for a status hearing to learn which magistrate will hear his case.

At first, Ferguson-Pratt said she would have to defer bail due to her heavy calendar. But after much protest from defense lawyer Murrio Ducille, Ferguson-Pratt set bail at $5,000 with one surety, provided Demeritte reports to the Carmichael Road Police Station on Wednesdays before 6 p.m.

Ducille said that Demeritte had no previous convictions and was not a flight risk. Ducille said, "He ought not to go to Fox Hill Prison on these allegations. The raison d'etre behind bail is that he shows up to face his accusers."

The prosecutor, ASP Clifford Daxon, had no objection to Demeritte's release.
