BAHAMAS Nurses Union president Amancha Williams says one nurse was injured and others have been left mentally shaken after a fight broke out between patients in the Emergency Department of Princess Margaret Hospital.

A 22-year-old man who admitted purchasing over $500 worth of items using another man's bank card was fined over $5,000 yesterday.

A BAHAMAS government minister recently appeared on TV in Brazil to talk about climate change and the farming industry.

The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) and Family Guardian have partnered to enhance the training and development of Media Technology students with a $10,000 donation and internship opportunities.

The donation will go specifically towards video, audio and television equipment necessary for BTVI’s Media program; the equipment will be a part of a production studio expected to be launched on BTVI’s Old Trail Road campus in summer 2022.

Future audio and video technicians, videographers, audio editors, producers and other related creatives will not only be introduced to new, advanced equipment, but have an opportunity to gain work experience at Family Guardian. A commitment was made to launch internships across its Public Relations, Marketing and Information Technology (IT) departments, beginning January 2022.

BTVI’s President, Dr. Robert Robertson, said the initiative is indicative of the power of collaboration and proof of Family Guardian’s generosity.

“It is commendable that in a pandemic, you continue to help others, including a generation of young people who are seeking to enhance or gain new skills in these technologically-advanced times. This is a shining example of your organization’s commitment to education and we hope it inspires other organizations and individuals to also render such assistance. You are investing in bright futures,” said Dr. Robertson.

The donation comes as the BTVI Media program marks its fourth year of enrollment and the institute gears up to open the campus studio next year.

Family Guardian’s President, Mr. Glen Ritchie, noted that Family Guardian believes in creating opportunities for persons of all ages and walks of life to grow and thrive.

BTVI currently offers a certificate, diploma and associate of applied science degree in Media Technology. Among the courses offered are Television Production, Interactive Media Production, Introduction to Broadcasting, Broadcasting Transmission, Video Production and Audio Production. With demand in the media field increasing, students will be able to discover, enhance and harness their creative abilities with exposure to industry equipment and have hands-on experience before officially joining the competitive media technology workforce.

Family Guardian’s financial commitment and internship program will directly assist in BTVI’s mission, ‘To provide learning opportunities to enable individuals to be globally competitive and economically independent.’

Other BTVI Media Technology industry partners include Cable Bahamas, the Movi Group, Bahamas Striping Group of Companies and Commonwealth Brewery.
