LPIA Domestic & International Terminal Fact Sheet

• An official ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of the new domestic and international departures and arrivals terminal at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA)is scheduled for October 17, 2013.

• Oversight of design and construction was handled by the Nassau Airport Development Company, NAD, which also handles operations of LPIA.

• The terminal is 105,000 square feet and was built at a cost of $83.5 million.

• It is the latest phase in the four year, $409.5 million airport development project that is transforming travelling through LPIA, the nation's largest and busiest airport, into a world-class experience for local residents and the nation's visitors, whether staying in Nassau or passing through on the way to one of the Family Islands of The Bahamas.

• Serving: The Family Islands of The Bahamas and all international destinations with the exception of the United States, which has a separate terminal adjacent to the new facility. • This will be the first time that local airlines and their passengers will share space with some of the world's largest carriers. Though each will have separate gates, facilities such as baggage carousels will be shared.

• The new terminal features:

o Two and a half storey-high vaulted ceilings and barrel vault roof

o 50/50 split between glass and solid walls for maximum ambient light without heat intrusion

o A deep-well cooling system which draws water from more than 300 feet below surface, cooling and redistributing it through diffusers to provide coo air at human height to maximize efficiency

o State-of-the-art baggage high speed baggage carousels

o CTX security screening

• LPIA serves some 3.2 million passengers annually.

• NAD delivered the new terminal on budget, on time.

• According to NAD's current annual report, the new airport complex will be 571,000 square feet with one million square feet of aircraft operating surface and the ability to handle five million passengers annually.

• In 2011, LPIA facilitated more than 82,000 aircraft take-offs and landings. • Designed with sophistication, airiness and a Bahamian touch, the newest terminal features artwork by Antonius Roberts, Dede Brown and John Paul.

• There will be several retail shops and in keeping with the Bahamian theme, dining options will feature local favourites like Kalik and conch salad.
