John Pyfrom and Leonardo Davis can now brag that they are among the best in the Americas region, after placing third in the 50th Annual Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas bowling championships.
Pyfrom and Davis were third overall in the adult men division, which was won by Andres Gomez and Manuel Otalora of Colombia. Coming in second was Arturo Hernandez and Eddy Antonio Fuentes of Venezuela. This was the highest placing for The Bahamas at the championships held at the Sawgrass Lanes in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Bahamas was sixth overall in the senior division. The women had racked up 7,304 points and the men 8,539 points. A total of 3,997 points was scored on the first day of competition and 3,992 points on day two. When all the numbers were added together, The Bahamas had 23,832 points. The United States of America (USA) won the division followed by Mexico and Canada. More than 700 points had separated the winners and second place finishers, USA and Mexico who had scored 27,678 and 26,937 points respectively. Canada had a two-day total of 25,503 points.
Even though no females represented The Bahamas in the super senior division, the team still managed a sixth place finish overall. A final score of 12,241 points, 2,090 on day one and closed with 2,033 on the second day was accumulated. The top three, once again, was USA, Mexico and Canada.
After six rounds of play, The Bahamas had 3,805 points in the adults division. At the close, which included all 12 rounds, The Bahamas scored 8,154 points and placed eighth overall.
In the individual play, held earlier in the week, Cedric Beckles and Pyfrom were ranked in the top 30, in the adult men's division. Pyfrom had the better slating of the two at 26 and a score of 6,193 points. Beckles had added to his score of 3,910 points and closed with 5,930 points. The leader and division winner was Amleto Monacelli, of Venezuela, with 7,879 points. Americans Steven Smith and Jarret Mizo were second and third with 7,832 and 7,634 points respectively.
The Americans were out front in the women's division until Karen Marcano and Isabelle Rioux bowled a near prefect game to split the duo of Brenda Padilla and Tennelle Milligan.
Padilla held on and was crowned the winner with a 7,480 total, Marcano had 7,432 points and Rioux scored 7,296 points. Bahamians Michelle Lightbourne and Michelle Outten were listed 21 and 22 respectively. Lightbourne had a total of 5,529 points and Outten's score was 5,053 points.
Representing The Bahamas in the senior men's division are Earlin Bowe and Jethro Miller. A total of 6,160 points was scored by Bowe who was 14th while Miller had 6,025 points. The winner in this division was Arturo Hernandez, Brian Brazeau was second followed by Rogelio Felice of Venezuela.
Ranked 15th in the senior women is Marie Sealy and Stephanie Bowe was 17th. Sealy improved on her scoring in the remaining two sets of games. She closed with 5,174 points and Stephanie Bowe accumulated 5,317. The Bahamas was not represented in six divisions, these include the super senior women, the junior A and B men, junior A and B women divisions.
