Ex-cop's porn case delayed

Wed, Feb 10th 2016, 10:16 AM

The trial of a former policeman accused of child pornography was postponed again yesterday.

Edmund Lewis Jr. appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes for the start of his trial into claims that he produced child pornography videos between July 2014 and January 21, 2015. However, Forbes was forced to adjourn the matter to Monday due to an emergency meeting with the chief justice.

The former police constable was first arraigned on January 23, 2015 and denied bail. He was dismissed from the Royal Bahamas Police Force shortly after charges were filed against him. He was re-arraigned days later, given the opportunity to choose his trial venue in the Magistrate's Court and granted $5,000 bail. Lewis had not been advised of this right at his initial court appearance due to an "inadvertent error".

Darell Taylor is prosecuting the case. Wayne Munroe, QC, represents Lewis.
