A 43-year-old Long Island resident was charged yesterday with the murder of a retired Canadian doctor. Moses Morris, of Simms, is accused of murdering Harry Geoffrey Harding, 88, last Thursday.

Morris held his head down for most of his appearance before Magistrate Andrew Forbes. Forbes informed Morris that he was not required to enter a plea and that he will be remanded to the Department of Corrections, formerly Her Majesty's Prisons.

According to police, Harding was in his home in Clarence Town, Long Island, on April 2, when he was stabbed to death.

The matter was adjourned to June 19 when it will be fast tracked to the Supreme Court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment.

Morris was also charged with one count of credit by fraud and one count of damage. He elected to have those matters heard in the Supreme Court by way of a preliminary inquiry.

Morris is accused of incurring a debt at Aaron's Rental in Bunches, Long Island, in the amount of $225 and causing damage to a Honda Fit totaling $2,101. Morris was not represented.

Superintendent Ercel Dorsett prosecuted.
