Nassau Residents Join the Campaign to ?Trash? Cancer

Cancer awareness definitely has a new face thanks to Bahamas Waste and their #BigPinkPics selfie campaign, where everyone in Nassau is encouraged to take selfies with their pink garbage truck to help raise awareness of the importance of cancer screening and prevention.

Since the #BigPinkPics campaign began in October, which is breast cancer awareness month, men, women and children have been posting their selfies to Bahamas Waste’s Facebook page exclaiming how they too want to help ‘trash’ cancer.
“Although the truck is bright pink, we want to note that Bahamas Waste advocates for the screening and prevention of ALL cancers,” said Francisco de Cardenas, Managing Director at Bahamas Waste. “The pink truck is eye catching, but our very own cancer survivor Hartley Strachan has survived two different types of cancers. Our main goal is to encourage everyone to get screened for cancers as often as their doctor suggests.”

So far, eight winning selfies have been chosen as the weekly winners. They include: Patrick Terrance Robinson, Samantha Culmer-Kemp, Tonya Ferguson, Ajayi Bodden, Gennie Dean, Dexter Knowles, Christerlina Fox-Francis and Etteloy Etteloy. Each winner has received mammogram gift certificates, cancer awareness t-shirts, Bahamas Ferries gift certificates, Starbucks gift certificates, John Bull gift cards, $50 Sun Oil fuel vouchers, Coca-Cola gear and more!

There are still two weeks remaining in the promotion, with two winners left to be chosen before the end of the year. Bahamas Waste is encouraging everyone to continue to look for the truck along the St. Anne’s route and then snap, post and win!

”Our promotion shows that real men wear pink,” said Francisco. “And men need not be afraid to get tested just like women do annually. Although our promotion will end in 2014 our truck will remain on the streets of Nassau as a constant reminder to all of us that prevention is the best medicine!”
