Hospitality Training

The bond between Sandals Emerald Bay and L.N. Coakley Secondary School got a little stronger recently with Sandals’ staff offering hospitality training to twelfth graders.

The training is slated to become a part of the school’s curriculum. As the largest employer in Exuma, Sandals realised the importance of spearheading this programme.

“We believe that we have a corporate responsibility to ensure that students are equipped for the working world, especially when a large majority of students will remain on island and seek employment with Sandals,” said Sandals Emerald Bay’s General Manager Jeremy Mutton.

Each week the Sandals Emerald Bay team will visit L.N. Coakley and coach the students on resort operations within the housekeeping, Front Office and Food and Beverage departments, among others. Upon completion of the programme, students will receive a certified hospitality training certificate from the resort.

L.N. Coakley has been adopted by Sandals Emerald Bay and The Sandals Foundation. Over the past three years The Sandals Foundation has built a computer lab, lunch pavilion, and basketball court for the students and the resort assists with job readiness programmes and one-month job training sessions that are mandatory for students to graduate.
