A jury yesterday saw 'selfies' of attempted murder suspect Maurice Armbrister that were downloaded from a cell phone that was found on the premises of Superintendent Clayton Fernander.A selfie is a photograph one takes of oneself usually with a digital camera.Armbrister and Excel Josey Jr. are accused of the attempted murder of Fernander during a failed bid to rob him after he arrived at his home, off St. Vincent Drive, on April 10, 2013. They have denied the allegations at their trial before Justice Carolita Bethell.During his testimony, Sergeant 1492 Dale Strachan said he had no access to the Blackberry Curve itself because he did not have the password. However, he was able to access photographs from the phone's memory card and text messages from the SIM card.At the request of prosecutor Neil Brathwaite, Strachan read a text message received from cell phone number 446-6539. The message read in part, "Baby, I want to chill with you. Maurice, love you."During cross-examination by Armbrister's lawyer Wayne Munroe, Strachan acknowledged that there were no incoming calls to the recovered phone after April 8.In a response to a question from Munroe, Strachan said that he did not know whether the GPS was enabled on the phone because it was locked.According to Corporal 372 Renaldo Burrows, Josey admitted participation in the crime on his arrest at the MediCentre on Collins Avenue on April 12.Burrows said that he was part of a team headed by Inspector Weymond Demeritte that went to the medical facility around 7 p.m.Burrows claimed that after Demeritte told Josey that he was suspected of the attempted murder and attempted armed robbery of Superintendent Clayton Fernander, the suspect said that he and Armbrister followed the victim outside his residence with the intention of robbing him.Burrows reported that Josey said Armbrister shot the victim after he was approached and they both fled. Josey reportedly told the officers that they went to Armbrister's home in Faith Gardens after the incident.Josey allegedly said that while there Maurice received a phone call from a cousin in Balls Alley, who warned him that police were looking for him.Burrows said that Josey told him that he went to sleep but when he awoke Armbrister was not there. Josey allegedly told Burrows that he called his father because he was "afraid police would shoot him".During cross-examination by Josey's lawyer Jairam Mangra, Burrows denied that Demeritte threatened to shoot Josey. However, Burrows admitted that he and Demeritte had their guns drawn when they entered the examination room. The trial continues today.
