Harbour Bay 'wellness' spa closes

A Harbour Bay store specializing in salt therapy will close its doors this weekend, citing a lack of customer volume to sustain the company going forward.
The Salt Room, a health and wellness spa which offered a natural salt-based therapy to customers suffering from respiratory illnesses and skin conditions, opened in May 2012.
Clientele could relax in recliners in rooms whose walls and ceiling were coated in a thick layer of salt.
In an announcement to customers issued yesterday, The Salt Room thanked its customers and expressed regret that the company's last day of operation will be this Saturday, November 2.
"While we believe in salt therapy and have seen the product work wonders, based on our business model it just did not bring in the volume of the general public to sustain us moving forward.
"We are very proud to have had our Dermalogica team and therapists that ran our spa. We know in closing that it will leave many of you upset you cannot get your products and treatment that we feel very strongly is such a great service and product," said the company in an email to clients.
The Salt Room was set up by Jonathan Cancino and his business partner.
The facility included four salt rooms, an adult recreation room, children's room, a patio and another area for spa services such as body scrubs and facials.
When it opened, The Salt Room employed around half a dozen staff.
Speaking with Guardian Business in July, Cancino said that the company was continuing to try to inform potential customers of the benefits of the treatment.
"A lot of people don't know what The Salt Room is, so we are trying to educate them on what it is and how it works. Most of our customers do feel better afterwards, so we are just trying to build up volume," he said.
