The financial institution renewed its commitment in 2010 making a further gift of $100,000 each subsequent year.

To date RBC has awarded more than $200,000 to Bahamian students pursuing higher education in Canada and over $100,000 toward other scholarship initiatives at the Foundations.

The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation's Scholarship Programme is designed to recognize the academic achievements and support the educational growth of talented, young leaders throughout The Bahamas. This year's scholarship recipients are Allena V. Albury and Byron G. McCartney.

Scholars are chosen based on academic achievement, exceptional personal qualities and contributions to the community. Allena V. Albury, 19, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in economics at Acadia University. She graduated from Queen's College in 2012 with eight BGCSE's.

While in high school Allena was a member of Student Council, QC5000 (a community service club), and served as Treasurer of the Anchor Club. She is a member of Luminaries Toastmaster Club 1510789. Allena's future plans include obtaining her MBA in Banking and Finance at the American Graduate School in Geneva and securing a position at the Ministry of Finance.

She expressed her gratitude to RBC and The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation for the opportunities offered to her. Allena admitted that before receiving the scholarship she did not know where she was going or what she wanted to do. She explained: - "I credit this scholarship for creating a guide for me and allowing me to see where I am going."
