Cop's sexual assault, battery trial to begin next year

The extradition hearing for a policeman wanted for the sexual assault and battery of an ex-girlfriend will not begin until next year.
Nyahuma Bastian, 35, was a student at the University of North Texas, when American prosecutors allege he ambushed, beat and raped a female student in 2001.
A hearing to determine whether Bastian should be handed over to American authorities to face trial was supposed to begin before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez yesterday.
However, Magistrate Gomez transferred the case to Magistrate Guillimina Archer, who yesterday set a hearing date for January 11, 2011.
