The Bahamas is one of three teams playing for two spots and a better ranking at the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Under-17 Women's World Cup Qualifier.
After hearing the news, Head Coach Kevin Davies said: "It can't get any better than this."
The qualifier will be played in Puerto Rico, August 5-12. The Bahamas, Bermuda and host country Puerto Rico are the three teams vying for the two available spots in the CONCACAF Championships. Aruba was expected to play, but pulled out of the competition at the last minute.
"The odds are definitely in our favor, and I love the chances going forward," said Davies.
"Only two teams will advance to the championships and I am confident The Bahamas will be in the count. This team has been working hard from late February, early March. You can see the chemistry and cohesiveness coming together. I haven't seen any of the other teams, but based on past results I believe this squad will do great.
"I must commend this team. It is filled with hardworking, well-disciplined and dedicated young ladies who have a passion to play. When you find players who enjoy what they do, only positive and great results follow. I expect some of the older and more experienced players to lead the way for the players who were named to the team for the first time."
Unfortunately, the team was unable to play in any warm-up tournament. They have to rely on practices held at the Roscow AL Davies Soccer Field.
In other soccer news, the under-15 boys will compete in the CONCACAF Under-15 Championships that will be played at three venues in the Cayman Islands, August 14-25. Participating countries are Aruba, The Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Martin, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands. An 18-member team, which will be coached by Niko Mosko, will represent The Bahamas at this inaugural event.
