Judge rejects murder suspect's bid to be free of ankle bracelet

A judge yesterday refused a request to remove an ankle bracelet from a man on bail in connection with a triple murder.

Shawn Knowles is wearing an electronic monitoring device as a condition of his $30,000 bail as he awaits trial for the July 30, 2011 shooting deaths of Edward Braynen; Erica Ward, who was eight months pregnant, and Chackara Rahming.

The incident took place at an apartment at Montgomery Avenue. Fetal homicide is not an offense under Bahamian law.

At his application to alter the conditions of his bail, Knowles claimed that the monitoring device was preventing him from getting a job. However, Senior Justice Jon Isaacs did not grant the request.

Police alleged that the murders were retaliation for the July 12 murders of Kevin Forbes and Alwayne Leslie at a Haitian village, off Montgomery Avenue.

The father of Ward's child was reportedly Serrano Adderley, the person charged with the murders of Forbes and Leslie. Forbes was Knowles' uncle.

Knowles and his codefendant Timothy Saunders are scheduled to go to trial in October.
