Teams from 20 schools throughout The Bahamas competed, building bridges made of Popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue to create the lightest structure that bears the heaviest load before breaking.

The Challenge was started by Bahamian engineering company Integrated Building Services (IBS) to increase interest in the applied sciences and to teach soft skills such as teamwork. "We are proud to have Baha Mar as a sponsor," remarked Nick Dean, Principal at IBS. "This event demonstrates the positive impact of companies working together to improve our community."

Alex Haley, Project Coordinator at Baha Mar, was a judge at the event. "Working with people from different disciplines is a critical part of the construction and engineering industries. The IBS Build-A-Bridge Challenge teaches students about good communication and teamwork. Those are very important personal and professional skills," said Haley.
