Seven Colombians were arrested after they were caught with 23 ounces of liquid cocaine inside their bodies at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) yesterday, police said. According to reports, police caught the four men and three women after they entered the country from Panama City around 2 p.m. Detective Gareth Rolle, the primary investigator who was assisted by female officers, said police found the liquid cocaine in condoms inserted into the private parts of two of the women. He said the other woman and four men had swallowed it.

Assistant Commissioner Anthony Ferguson told reporters last year that police have been keeping a close eye on passengers coming in from Panama. His comments came after police said they arrested several people with drugs who had entered the country from Panama. According to the United States 2013 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report, there has been an increase in drug smuggling through air traffic from Central America. "Smugglers readily blend in among the armada of pleasure craft traveling throughout The Bahamas," the report said. "Recent law enforcement information points to increased smuggling through air traffic, both by newly established commercial traffic from South and Central America and through private planes."
