Eight of these youngsters travelled to Florida again at the end of January to compete in the Boomerang Regatta hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club.
Spencer Cartwright placed first in the Optimist Division, and Paul de Souza finished 7th out of 28 in the very competitive Laser Radial Fleet.
The months ahead promise to be busy ones for the BSA junior sailors.
Paul de Souza coming to the finish in the Boomerang Regatta (Ft. Lauderdale). They were invited to participate in the 26th annual St. Valentine's Day Regatta taking place at Montagu Bay. This event is traditionally for sloop sailing, but is evolving into a much more inclusive event, as it now has something to offer for sailing enthusiasts of all ages.
Following the Valentine's Day Regatta the sailors will be back on the water for the BSA Optimist/Laser Winter Youth Regatta scheduled for March 2nd and 3rd.
The Bahamas Sailing Association is hoping make this an annual event on international sailing schedules, and is looking forward to a turnout of about fifty boats. There will be young Bahamian sailors from Abaco, Freeport and Harbour Island travelling to Nassau to compete in the races, and it should be an exciting event for all.
